Pandit Anand Koul, "Geography Of The Jammu And Kashmir State" (2nd ed., 1925)
p105: "Year: 1603 A.D. In whose time: Ali Akbar. Extent of damages caused: Famine occurred on account of untimely rains. Akbar the Great, sent grains from the Punjab, but they were not sufficient and many people perished of starvation. The famine lasted two years."

p110: "Year: 1604 A.D. In whose time: Ahmad Beg Khan. Extent of damages caused: An epidemic of cholera lasted 40 days with such virulence that it staggered humanity. The number of dead was so immense that they could not be buried or cremated and, therefore, had to be thrown into the river."
[Both these references are self-contradictory (e.g. Ali Akbar Khan was only appointed governor of Kashmir at the very end of Akbar's reign, or possibly even the beginning of Jahangir's- i.e. late 1605- and was removed from office after about 3 years) and other sources more plausibly date the epidemic to c1617, so see 1616]

1603 (b): Gujarat incorrect report

Documented effects: n/a

Wikipedia "Banarasi sari" [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banarasi_sari ]
"With the migration of silk weavers from Gujarat during the famine of 1603, it is likely that silk brocade weaving started in Banaras in the seventeenth century and developed in excellence during the 18th and 19th century. "
[It seems likely that "1603" is a mistake for "1630"]
